The reason for this measure is that it will make it easier to continue working or resume employment after retirement. Because of the corona crisis, staff shortages have arisen in many areas, due to illnesses or quarantine orders. This should make it more attractive for pensioners to take up a part-time job.
Pension: increase of the additional earnings limit is not permanent
However, the increase in the additional earnings limit is only temporary. On the side of the German pension insurance, this means that from 2021 it will be reset to 6,300 euros per calendar year.
Additional earnings during retirement: these are the conditions
Anyone who has reached the standard age limit of 67 years (born in or after 1964) can earn an unlimited amount anyway. However, these people are usually less interested in part-time jobs. The new regulation is therefore particularly interesting for early retirees *. Anyone who is entitled to a pension before the normal retirement age must take the additional earnings limit into account when taking up secondary employment .
Whoever is an early retiree this year and resumes his old job, can earn 44,590 euros or 3,715 euros gross per month this year and receives his full pension amount at the same time.

Staff shortages in health care are to be dealt with
The fact that pensioners are to be motivated to work again by this new transitional arrangement naturally goes against the fact that older people from the age of 60 are among the risk groups that are supposed to be specially protected against infection with Covid 19 *. When choosing the activities, you should definitely consider this. The German pension insurance nevertheless hopes that staff shortages will be dealt with in hospitals and nursing homes, among other things.
