The corona virus changes everything. Everyone has this impression. But this is usually only true for the pleasant things in everyday life. There are emergencies in which citizens are still obliged to help.

This is the case when someone is seriously injured or breaks down and relies on outside help. In principle, the new distance requirement does not change anything. However, the way in which you have to meet this first aid obligation is changing. This is what the BRK district association in Munich points out in a press release. The contains the following tips for protection against infection with the corona virus *:

Everyone can and must provide help to the extent reasonable and without any significant risk. " There is also a legal obligation to provide first aid despite the risk of infection, but there are some peculiarities in the current situation, " says Dr. Frithjof Wagner, chief physician of the Bavarian Red Cross District Association Munich and gives helpful tips.

First aid in times of the coronavirus pandemic: important rules of conduct

1. In the first place is always your own safety , especially now that there is an additional risk with the risk of infection. If possible, the minimum distance of 1.50 meters should be maintained, but this is at the discretion of the helper. If closer contact is necessary, for example in the event of injuries, the mouth and nose of the person in need of help should be covered with a cloth and their own face should also be protected.

2. Regardless of the distance, it is also essential , whenever possible, to call 112 and communicate with the person concerned: calm down, inform them that help is on the way, and stay until the emergency services are on site .

3. With a cardiovascular arrest *, mouth-to-mouth ventilation should be avoided in the current situation and only cardiac massage should be carried out (100-120 times per minute) - until the rescue service takes over.

4. The helper should give the emergency services their own contact details so that they can be reached in the event that the affected person is subsequently diagnosed with an infectious disease.

5. People who belong to a risk group * should always stay at home . If they nevertheless witness an emergency outside, they have to consider whether assistance to strangers is possible taking into account their own safety.

6. A risk patient with symptoms should not provide direct first aid to a patient, but should limit himself to organizing the help and dialing 112.
