400 establishments out of the 700 in the region declared cases of contamination. The staff is far from being spared.

A contagion that "progresses quickly", especially among staff. More than 400 of the 700 Ehpad in Ile-de-France know "at least one case of Covid-19", announced Friday the director of the Regional Health Agency. "In Ile-de-France, we have almost 60% of Ehpad in which there is at least one case of Covid, a little more than 400" of the 700 establishments in the region, says Aurélien Rousseau, director of the ARS Ile-de-France.

“The contagion continues. This is progressing quickly, but not at the same level for lethality thanks to the barrier and isolation measures put in place ”, he continued, refusing however to specify the number of deaths observed in Accommodation establishments for people elderly dependent on Ile-de-France.

According to the latest national assessment, based on a questionnaire to be completed daily by the establishments, the coronavirus has taken away more than 4,000 residents of Ehpad since the beginning of the epidemic, which particularly affects the elderly or frail.

In Ile-de-France, the completion rate for this form reaches 85%, according to Aurélien Rousseau. "For the past week, the ARS has also been collecting the needs of nursing homes for doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, logistics, cooking and bio-cleaning staff," he continued, saying that he was anxious not to "leave any Ehpad isolate themselves in complicated situations ".

A massive screening campaign

Some sixty people within the ARS are responsible for forming reinforcement teams and taking stock with the establishments. "We are in a context where the number of infected people among staff is increasing at the same speed as in the general population," he said.

The government announced on Monday that a massive screening campaign would be gradually launched in the Ehpad, which previously could only test the first three suspects of Covid-19.

The Council of State will examine Monday, April 13 the appeal of several applicants, including the National Union of Labor Force Private Health unions. They ask on the one hand the Council of State to enjoin the Government to set up the systematic screening of the staff and residents of nursing homes, including asymptomatic people. But still, they demand the provision of protective equipment as well as high-speed oxygenation for residents whose condition does not require hospitalization.
