(ANSA) - ROME, APRIL 12 - Numerous people would have died in the sea following the sinking of a boat between Malta and Tripoli.
Sea Watch reported it in a tweet, explaining that "250 people had drifted since yesterday on 4 rafts", which had on board a variable number between 47 and 85 people, and that one of these boats capsized and people were shipwrecked. The four boats - one with 72 people on board, one with 47, one with 55 and the last with 85 - were reported yesterday to Sea Watch by Alarm Phone, the telephone service for indifficult migrants. It was Sea Watch herself who asked for the intervention of the European Commissioner for Human Rights "to clarify that the rights of people saved at sea must be guaranteed regardless of which ship is running." The NGO then explained that the European agency Frontex has today reported the barges at sea, one of which is upside down.
