Technical changes for the 2020 and 2021 seasons of the World Championship, intended to "reduce costs globally in all three classes", were decided during a video conference attended by members of the Grand Prix Commission, chaired by Carmelo Ezpeleta , CEO of Dorna, given the global crisis caused by Covid-19.

MotoGP

2020 season: there will be no updates or approved parts. This decision will be valid for all manufacturers, with and without concessions.
2021 season: both those who have concessions and those who do not have them, will start the 2021 season using the pieces approved in March 2020. Then the normal updating rules will apply for the rest of the season, as required by current legislation; which means that no evolution to the engine will be allowed and only one aerodynamic update per pilot for all manufacturers.

Moto2

The organizers will supply all the drivers in the category with the same Triumph 765 cc engine. Until now, the only limitation in the technical assignments was the granting of only one Aero Body update (concerning the aerodynamic configuration) for each manufacturer. The current Aero Bodies approved in 2020 relating to the chassis of the manufacturers presented in Qatar in 2020, together with each version approved in 2019, will be frozen until the end of the 2021 season. Other updates will not be allowed. Each team will be asked to declare a maximum of two specifications for each frame and swingarm per rider, for each approved frame. Any driver committed to replacing a colleague will be required to use the parts declared by the replaced pilot.

Moto3

The specification of the bike, as declared by each manufacturer at the 2020 Qatar Grand Prix, will be frozen for the 2020 and 2021 seasons. Further updates will not be granted anywhere: chassis, swingarm, engine, aerodynamic extensions, gearbox or devices that modify the height of the motorcycle.
