In view of the Earth Day that occurs on April 22, Microsoft has unveiled a platform based on artificial intelligence, called Planetary Computer, which serves to aggregate and analyze environmental data from around the world. The aim is to assist governments, organizations and companies in the development and implementation of projects capable of promoting sustainability and environmental protection. The initiative is part of AI for Earth, Microsoft's international program to support people and entities in addressing environmental challenges.
In a post signed by President Brad Smith, Microsoft explains to adopt "four principles" as a guide for action aimed at achieving biodiversity goals: putting data and digital technology to work with the "Planetary Computer" to photograph and understand reality; and make this technology available to partners and customers to help them make environmental decisions.
Furthermore, Microsoft is committed to making itself heard "on public policy issues related to ecosystems", supporting and sponsoring initiatives on the management of ecosystems at national and global level, and to take responsibility for the environmental impact of its direct operations, "protecting more land of what we use by 2025 ".
