Confinement: the rush for McDonald's reopened in “drive” causes traffic jams

Hours of waiting to find the taste of the Big Mac in full containment. Lovers of burgers, nuggets, fries and potatoes came in large numbers Monday evening for the reopening of the drives of some McDonald's restaurants.

In Moissy-Cramayel (Seine-et-Marne), the cars followed one another for hundreds of meters, until creating a traffic jam. "I had to take another route to get home because there were so many people," says Josua, 24, living in this town of Seine-et-Marne.

The McDonalds in Lieusaint-Moissy has indeed reopened its drive and its home deliveries on Monday April 20. It is the first in the department. It is part of the experiment carried out by the American brand in 15 establishments in the west of France, including three in Ile-de-France.

Up to three hours of waiting

News of the reopening quickly spread among residents of Moissy and surrounding towns. "People have posted messages and videos on Snapchat," says Josua, who also wanted to try his luck with "a box of nuggets."

"I was thinking of stopping there after returning from the races, but there were already so many cars ... It was not possible," he laughs. The young man filmed the long queue and posted the footage on social media.

"It was impressive," confirms Sébastien, an employee of Feu vert services in Moissy-Cramayel. “I went shopping around 5pm and the line was already starting to look like a snail. It must have lasted until 10 p.m. "

When contacted, these Ile-de-France restaurants did not respond, their lines seeming saturated with calls. McDonald's France tells us for its part that it has not received any feedback from establishments that have reopened their drive and home delivery services.
