Coronavirus in France: 531 new deaths, 20,796 in total since March 1

This Tuesday evening, 5,433 patients are still in intensive care, says the Directorate General of Health.


With a "particularly painful" toll of more than 20,000 dead in France, the Covid-19 killed "more than the heat wave of summer 2003", underlined Monday evening the director general of health, Jérôme Salomon. A total of 20,796 people have died since the start of the epidemic, according to the DGS on Tuesday.

In detail, 12,900 deaths were recorded in hospitals and 7,896 in social and medico-social establishments, including nursing homes (Ehpad).

In the past 24 hours, authorities have announced the death of an additional 531 people in the country, including 387 in hospitals and 144 in social and medico-social establishments.

117,384 people diagnosed positive

The number of patients hospitalized for a Covid-19 infection amounted to 30,106 on Tuesday, with a balance down by 478. For the 13th day in a row, the number of patients in intensive care is decreasing (-250). 5,433 people are still affected.

According to Santé Publique France, 117,324 cases of Covid-19 are confirmed in France.
