Video game market is in quarantine

Analysts, global spending flies to $ 10 billion in March (ANSA)


Quarantine is taking the video game market off the ground. In March, world spending rose 11% year-on-year to a record 10 billion dollars. The analysts of SuperData, Nielsen company specializing in video games, make this known.

With people forced home, the segments of computer and console video games are increasing, especially in Europe and North America. Global spending on game console titles reached $ 1.5 billion in March, 64% more than the 883 million in February. King of the titles is "Animal Crossing: New Horizons", which with 5 million copies purchased in a single month becomes the best-selling console game ever. On the PC front, spending grew by 56% month on month, from 363 to 567 million.

The smartphone video games segment continues to enjoy good health, with revenues of 5.7 billion last month, 15% more than March 2019. Among the titles, the increase in Pokemon Go, which generated revenue of 111 million (+ 18% month over month) after the Niantic editor made changes to the game to make it easier to play without having to physically move.
