Children turned into news anchors tell the latest news from home

That's the way it is and that's how these brothers from Mallorca told them.

The challenge of entertaining five children between the ages of seven months and ten during confinement without having skills for crafts led Victoria Ferrer and her husband, Pablo Aróstegui, to be a little more imaginative. Mixing the professions of both, her journalist and his publicist, the idea arose to record from his home in Palma de Mallorca with his children a news program that already has several editions. In each video, the children use their surroundings to characterize themselves as the characters they interpret, ranging from the doctor Fernando Simón to the vice president Pablo Iglesias.

“We are bad at crafts and one of my sons last year in class was made to write a story. We thought about doing the same thing at home to hang out, ”says Victoria, mother of the five brothers of 10, 8, 4, 3 years and a seven-month-old baby. In the first newscast only two of the little ones appeared as presenters (as if they were the presenters of Antena 3 Matías Prats and Vicente Vallés), but week by week they have been incorporating new characters from the political field, to whom the rest of Brothers.

"The intention was to give a little humor to the matter, without ever losing sight of the seriousness of the subject and with all due respect, but we wanted to try to get a smile at a slightly sad moment," says Aróstegui. Filming is usually done on Saturdays, when there are no school obligations, in front of a green quilt that serves as a chrome and allows them to insert the images of the different sets in the subsequent edition (the television set, the Congress of the Deputies ...) to make the news as real as possible.

For characterizations of the characters they take advantage of what they find at home, from the tie of some old suit to the shirts of the most special occasions. “Pablo Iglesias for example wears the red-haired wig of Frozen but, of course, we throw away what's out there. I don't even know how Fernando Simón's wig appeared, we bought it years ago and now we use it, ”says the father.

Both children and adults are enjoying this initiative. The little ones have gone from feeling shame in the initial video, to struggling to stay with the new characters that appear. The oldest is the one with the most acting skills at the moment. “He immediately memorizes what he has to say or improvises it. We explain what is happening so that they can understand what they are saying, "says the father, who concludes:" The purpose of all this is to entertain us all, because it is difficult to spend so much time at home. "

From presenters to storytellers

Children have set an example during these days by staying at home entertaining themselves with the toys and activities that they can use and do inside it. As the days went by, both the little ones and the adults have looked for other ways to have fun, such as, for example, setting up a circuit on the floor of the house to play with the plates or building a theater of winks in the living room and doing a performance.

Playing at being a radio or television presenter is very common among children, they imitate those who watch at lunchtime or those who listen when their parents tune in to the radio. From Granada the Piarist Secret is broadcast, a radio-story made with WhatsApp audio and that is uniting during the quarantine the students of 2nd of the Escolapios school in the Andalusian city. Through different chapters, already over ten, the children have been creating a mystery story that they are following from their homes and helped by their parents little by little. Listen to the chapters here.

In the Canary Islands we find the improvised study of Radio Ocho Pies, an initiative promoted by Txema Santana, collaborator of EL PAÍS, Mar Padilla and her two young children. Through the Internet waves, children tell their day to day during their confinement and talk about current issues. The project was born to give voice to the little ones in the houses, they are the ones who speak, sing, tell and say how they are living it. Here you can find all their podcasts. In addition, for a few days Radio Canarias has also started broadcasting the contents of this family radio.
