First Inail Report: 40% of the victims are killed (ANSA)

Inail has already received over 28,000 reports of contagion injuries from Covid 19 with 98 fatal cases . The data comes from the first report of the Institute published on the eve of the workers' day which highlights how fatal reports from Covid are 40% of the fatal accidents reported at work . Almost half of the contagion accidents (45.7%) concern nurses and other health technicians, followed by socio-health workers (18.9%), doctors (14.2%) and social-care workers (6.2 %).

There were 52 fatal cases of contagion in March and 46 in April, up to 21. "Our data - explains the president of INAIL, Franco Bettoni - confirm the greater exposure to the risk of health personnel, to which the Institute recognizes simple presumption of professional origin of the infection ". "The government - underlines the Minister of Labor and Social Policies, Nunzia Catalfo - works in close synergy with INAIL and with the other institutions involved in emergency management to ensure that the gradual resumption of activities takes place in conditions of maximum safety for all, identifying effective protection measures also through constant dialogue with the social partners ".

Taking into consideration the various production activities, the Health and social care sector - which includes hospitals, nursing homes and rest homes - records 72.8% of the cases of contagion at work by Covid-19 reported to INAIL, while at territorial level almost eight out of 10 complaints are concentrated in the regions of northern Italy : 52.8% in the North-West (35.1% in Lombardy) and 26% in the North-East (10.1% in Emilia Romagna). The rest of the cases are distributed between Central (12.7%), South (6.0%) and Islands (2.5%). I l 71.1% of those infected at work are women and 28.9% men , with little more than an average age of 46 years (46 for women, 47 for men). Among nurses and other health technicians, in particular, more than three out of four complaints relate to female workers. 12.6% of cases concern foreign workers, among whom the percentage of women is 80%. By focusing on the 98 reported fatal cases, the relationship between genders is reversed. In fact, 78 workers died, 20 workers died, with an average age of 58 for both men and women.

Inail however remembers that these data are provisional and their comparison with those collected by ISS "requires caution". The Inail audience - explains the Institute - refers only to insured workers and therefore does not include, for example, general practitioners, freelancers and pharmacists.
