"Waiting rooms and empty corridors, consultations deserted for 2 months ... I have the impression of swimming in the middle of a nightmare" exclaims cancerologist Charlotte Ngô, arriving in the reception room of the Hôpital des Peupliers ( Paris XIII).
"Yesterday, I had only one patient! Blows the surgeon, more used to overloaded schedules.
“Many people are afraid to come to the hospital for fear of getting the coronavirus. Often, they do not even know that our consultations have remained open and that they have been secured, ”recalls Dr Hélène Bonsang-Kitzis.
In fact, practitioners worry about a possible rebound once the health crisis has passed. "We are afraid of facing an aggravation of the cases, of discovering more advanced cancers which require heavier treatments".
This is why it is essential to continue screening. "Because we know that in the cure of cancer, the early detection is a major element," said Charlotte Ngô, specialist in breast cancer.
