(ANSA) - KINSHASA, MAY 2 - "Hecatombe" risk caused by coronavirus in "unhealthy and overpopulated" prisons of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where already dozens of prisoners die every year. The complaint was made by Human Rights Watch (HRW) according to which there is a "serious risk of spreading the Covid-19 epidemic".
A total of 43 detainees tested positive in the past two days in the military prison in Ndolo, in the full center of the capital Kinshasa, which is home to nearly 2,000 people.
But the data could worsen as "swabs are being carried out for all detainees," said Health Minister Eteni Longondo, who said the virus entered prison through "a woman who brought food".
