After a long journey through dance, Laura Palomina had managed to fulfill one of her dreams. Along with the Sunkku Gaucho ballet, he had won a two-year contract to perform in a city in China. Coming from a family where the dance was in the blood, Laura and the other members left with all the illusion in tow from Chubut on December 29, 2019. The biggest stage of a giant park located in the city of Shenzhen awaited them. , close to Hong Kong, and also, the experience of living in person the arrival of the Chinese New Year .

They acted until January 24. And since 25, the coronavirus pandemic already unleashed condemned the members of the ballet to isolation within a department that lasted 60 days . There they tried to pass it as well as possible, although a confinement, in a distant city, with a complicated language, far from their affections and without being able to display their art and fulfill their objectives, almost fell asleep.

"But I tell everyone that you have to understand that it is the only way to deal with this virus, " says Laura. The 60 days passed. The city managed to slowly return to normal after strictly fulfilling the quarantine and the ballet returned to the stage. “Although people are still a little scared, the park is slowly getting back to what it was before the pandemic broke out. Everyone is still wearing chinstraps and for now, the shows are done during the day and on a small stage. But from May we will have daily performances and on the main stage, ”he told Clarín .

The ballet has its roots in Salliqueló. Laura and other members came together to form a set of folk dances that combines the malambo with bass drums and bowlers . “We returned to the stage and we were happy. At least I understood that the efforts are worth it. We had to make an isolation that we did not expect, to live an unthinkable situation . But we put his chest to it and now that everything is slowly returning to normal, we feel a feeling between relief and happiness at being able to return to the dance. ”

During the quarantine, two members had decided to return as soon as they could travel. Sebastián Mulero and Magdalena Nápoli did it and are already in the country. The rest stayed to fulfill that two-year contract that they signed with the authorities in Shenzhen (a city located 850 kilometers from Wuhan, where the first coronavirus case was registered), which despite not acting, were paid on time. the months that were isolated.

Laura Palomino, the director, is the daughter of a renowned Rawson artist.

In addition to Laura and the two dancers who returned, the group that traveled to China is made up of Ricardo Soplan and Alexis Ezequiel García, all of them from Chubut. The park where they operate, which is “giant” as they described it, closed its doors as soon as the first cases of coronavirus appeared . “Artists from all over the world perform here. It is a park with international shows. Unfortunately, many of them lost the opportunity because when the pandemic broke out, they returned to their countries and could no longer return because all the borders were closed, ”added the director of the ballet.

Laura said that they take turns with other groups to rehearse (at least two hours a day) and that they take advantage of free time to tour the city. “There were places that we could not know because the principle was dedicated only to work. Then came the isolation, which was very rigorous. They even put up fences so that people don't go out. Now everything changed. We have a department every two members. And being able to go dancing for us is the best thing that can happen to us. Because that's what we came to. "

It is not the first time that Laura has performed in other parts of the world. The dance is in his blood. Her father Miguel Palomino is a renowned artist from Rawson, the capital of Chubut. Not long ago they paid tribute to him and the Playa Unión amphitheater is named after him. "I think Dad should be happy , as well as calmer from the moment I told him that the worst had happened and that we could go back to acting," said Laura. And he added: “I think we will have up to nine presentations per day from the month of May. It will be very exhausting because each one lasts about an hour and a half. But ultimately it is what we like and why we came. "

When they arrived on January 24 and they were told that they should stay inside an apartment, things were not very clear. “We had a hard time understanding what was going on. We had many difficulties with the language until we understood the gravity of the moment. We ordered food online and we didn't move at all. It was pretty tough because we didn't even have room to rehearse. But luckily it happened. And now it's like a 'relive' with dance. ”

Owner of an impeccable handling of the stage and dedicated to dance from a very young age, Laura began in recent days to recover her dream. The one who had been born at the end of the year when they undertook a long journey. When they started acting in a place they did not imagine, with artists from all over the world. “To say that it is an experience that I will never forget can be a no-brainer. But sometimes things happen for something. Now I only think about acting, going on stage and that people get to know the genuine Argentine art . We do it to the best of our ability and looking forward. The rest was left behind. I am very happy'. We all are. And we will try to live it to the best of our ability. ”
