The 20 Hours, Cyril Hanouna… who are the winners and losers of confinement on TV?

2020-05-03T09:20:33.233Z

Did they break through, or resist, or lose ground? Before the deconfinement, an overview of tops and flops.

47th day of confinement… And TV always triumphs! On average, the French watched it 4:43 every day for 5 weeks according to Médiamétrie. It is 1h15 more than last year. But where some assert themselves, others leave a few feathers there…

THE WINNERS

The 20 Hours shines again. The news had weakened in 2019. Here they are again at the top, at 1 p.m., but especially at 8 p.m. TF 1, whose gap hitherto narrowed with France 2, takes a large advantage, with an average of 8.2 million followers each evening ahead of Gilles Bouleau or Anne-Claire Coudray. Or 2.6 million won! April is its best month in ten years. France 2, embodied by Anne-Sophie Lapix, she earns an additional 1.8 million. The intervention of Emmanuel Macron on April 13 broke an absolute record with nearly 37 million viewers, all channels included. Stronger than the football World Cup final!

Cinema at the party. It's a good move signed France 2: since March 21, its cinema afternoons have been a hit, with an average of 2.4 million followers (+ 45% compared to usual programs). And 5.2 million in front of "la Grande Vadrouille". Louis de Funès, thirty-seven years after his death, remains the king of the audience. From May 11, France 3 takes up the torch.

Cyril Lignac treats M6.The chief animator of M 6 is the revelation of confinement. His show “Tous en cuisine”, set up in two days, set up straight away, with an average of 2.2 million gourmets (sometimes up to 2.7 million), allowing M 6 to beat its record audience in this segment for eight years ... And to be a leader on the target of women responsible for purchases under 50 years of age.

"C à vous" and "Quotidien" assert their power. Since March 16, it has been flawless. "C à vous", by Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, on France 5, won 530,000 newcomers, with 1.9 million followers between 7 and 8 pm and 8.6% of the public. In the process, "C l'hebdo", by Ali Badou, on Saturday, breaks through with 446,000 more viewers. "Quotidien", by Yann Barthès, on TMC conquers 170,000, with an average of 1.8 million fans each evening after 8 pm (6% audience share).

A makeover for the elderly. After a record low in 2019, "The Voice", on TF 1, finds the trunk (400,000 newcomers). But less than "Koh-Lanta" which explodes and signs its best season in six years, with 6.4 million fans. On M6, "Beijing Express" and "Top Chef" had not achieved such scores for eight years. On France 5, twenty-year-old magazines like "C dans l'air" or "le Magazine de la santé" jumped. The palm goes to the dean… “the Day of the Lord” on France 2, whose audience has tripled.

France 4 saved? Its closure is still scheduled for August 9. But his live school lessons and his educational magazine "Maison Lumni", run by Alex Goude, have scored so much, with 1.2 million children under the age of 15 every day, that they are extended until July 3. In the meantime better? The file is on the Prime Minister's desk.

Yves Calvi returns from afar. "L'Info du réel", its free-to-air news program on Canal +, had reached a peak of 135,000 viewers. It has almost tripled the bet since March 16, to 380,000 followers. Canal + renewed it for the start of the school year.

"Gym tonic" warms the audience. “#Stay in shape”, the sports program in front of the TV makes a younger and more numerous audience, 285,000 fans every morning on France 3 sweat since April 6, more than double the regional magazines before the confinement; 400,000 on France 2 on Saturdays; 120,000 on France 5 every noon… Result: extension until July.

LOSERS

Harry Roselmack misses his bet. His "Seven to Eight, the Daily", edited in four days to replace the soap opera "Tomorrow belongs to us", only lasted three weeks, with a record of 2.1 million viewers (9.6% public). Since then, the chain has knocked down two other cards at 7 p.m., "Le Grand Bêtisier", then "Who wants to make millions at home?" », Without catching up on Nagui (France 2) or Cyril Lignac (M 6).

Wanted ad for "Télématin". Laurent Bignolas was the first animator placed in quarantine, at the end of February, after returning from his vacation in Italy. Then the whole team of France 2 magazine was required to stay at home, after contamination by the chronicler Laura Tenoudji's Covid-19. The morning of France Info has therefore taken the place on France 2, with a hint of spirit "Télématin" ... Bignolas, him, has not reappeared. France 2 is considering a resumption on May 25.

Painful Cyril Hanouna. This doctor's son set the tone for confinement by being the first to broadcast from his couch on March 17. Good for the finances of C 8 which saves money. But "Tonight at Baba's", far from the glitz and the overflowing plateau of "Don't touch my post", misleads 500,000 followers, with 800,000 viewers on average against 1.3 million before confinement. Consolation: the chain renews it for three seasons.
