Coronavirus and deconfinement: "Will Macron cars be able to run on May 11?"

2020-05-04T11:02:56.633Z

The companies do not plan to resume their activity for the moment, pending clarification on the sanitary measures to be respected.

Every day, Le Parisien is mobilized to answer your questions around the coronavirus. Today we are interested in the questioning of Laurence, who asks us if bus transportation will be authorized from May 11.

First of all, remember that we call “Macron cars” all those buses that benefited from the liberalization of the sector by Emmanuel Macron, then Minister of the Economy, in 2015. The two main companies that still operate in France are FlixBus and BlaBlaBus (formerly OuiBus).

Since March 17 and "until further notice", the activities of these two companies are completely stopped and no more bus is running. A recovery from the start of deconfinement, May 11, is not at all on the agenda, tell us FlixBus and BlaBlaBus.

Travel will then be authorized regardless of the reason within a radius of 100 km around his home, and it will take a "compelling family or professional reason" to travel a distance greater than 100 km. However, very few bus lines operate over a distance of less than 100 km. Regarding long distance journeys, they could be considered, but demand will certainly be very low. Especially since Edouard Philippe announced Tuesday, April 28, wanting to "continue to reduce the supply" of transport for interdepartmental or interregional.

Wearing a mask and on-board controls

In addition, beyond the reasons for travel and distances, "we are not going to relaunch the activity on May 11 because we are still awaiting clarification, in particular on the wearing of masks and social distancing", tells us t on FlixBus. In the case of a journey of more than 100 km, there will also be the question of checking the overriding reason appearing on the certificate, as well as the wearing of the mask if it is ever made compulsory, as in trains. Unlike the RATP and the SNCF, coach companies do not have agents who can charge passengers.

“Macron buses” could eventually take to the road during the second phase of deconfinement, from June 2. "We will make a point with them soon. It is a sector that employs 2,500 people, "said Secretary of State for Transport Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, in Le Parisien on April 30.
