(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 5 - The origin of the new coronavirus is natural, with a history that began 140 years ago in bats.
The journal Nature reconstructs it on its website, while in the United States the controversy continues over the alleged birth of the virus in a Chinese laboratory. Citing recent research, Natureindica, its origins, that the ancestor of SarsCoV2 would have separated from the family of bats' coronaviruses between 40 and 70 years ago. The results of the researches cited by Nature reconstruct a long and complex history, which suggests the image of an elongated branched family tree which may have transmitted some characteristics at the origin of the new coronavirus that would also be present in the pangolins, the animals indicated at the moment most likely natural reservoirs in which the genetic recombination of other circulating coronaviruses would have given rise to SarsCoV2 and its ability to attack humans.
