Recall of disinfectants: danger due to corona protection product? Fire brigade was already in use

Corona virus: Unsafe pandemic products keep coming into circulation. A disinfectant has now been recalled. 

• Batches of AquaDes surface disinfectant from  Söll GmbH are recalled.
• A chemical reaction can cause some canisters to swell.

Munich - Several batches of a surface disinfectant from Söll GmbH were recalled in coordination with the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Energy and the preventive technical relief agency . 

There is a risk of a chemical reaction with around 67,000 liters of the disinfectant *  AquaDes . The company said that this was harmless.

Damage to the cylinder in the bottling plant occasionally washed out metal particles. These form oxygen with the active ingredient sodium hypochlorite . The additional oxygen can cause the containers to become bloated. According to the current state of knowledge, no canisters have yet burst. 

The Upper Franconian company assures that there is no danger from the still functional product. Customers who have impaired canisters are asked by Söll GmbH for information on the hotline 0 800/8373623. The majority of the delivered canisters have already been retrieved or already exchanged on site.

"Our goal is, of course, to have defect-free products on the market, which is why the voluntary, immediate recall was a matter of course for us," says Thorsten Muck, Managing Director of the OASE Group , to which Söll has belonged since April 2019. 

According to Söll, the fire department occasionally deployed as a precautionary measure due to the conspicuous canisters . The company very much regrets that. However, there is still no immediate danger from the product. Leaked liquid can simply be diluted with water and washed away.
