(ANSA) - ISTANBUL, MAY 8 - The Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, which had been closed on March 23 for the Covid-19 emergency, will reopen its doors. This was announced this morning by the president of its Governing Council, Fatih Kurtulmus. In addition to being one of Turkey's main commercial and currency exchange centers, the Grand Bazaar is a symbol of tourism in the Bosporus metropolis, not far from the Blue Mosque in Sultanahmet and the Hagia Sophia museum. The reopening is linked to the desire to restart tourist flows in Istanbul from the next month, which hosts about 15 million visitors per year. Shopping centers will open in Turkey as early as Monday, but without allowing access to restaurant bars.
