Sad record in Italy. The country crossed the threshold of 30,000 deaths caused by the Covid-19 epidemic with 30,201 deaths, an increase of 243 over 24 hours, announced the Civil Protection on Friday in its daily report.
The increase in the number of deaths, 243 in 24 hours, is less than that recorded on Thursday (+ 274) or Wednesday (+ 369).
It is the second European country, after the United Kingdom on Tuesday, to exceed this symbolic threshold, even if the total number of patients continues to decline and now reaches 87,961 against 89,624 the previous day. Likewise, the number of patients in intensive care fell from 1,168 compared to 1,311 on Thursday.
The most affected region remains Lombardy, in the north of the country, the country's economic lung, with 14,839 deaths for 80,723 cases, followed by Emilia-Romagna, in the north center (3,797 deaths for 26,598 cases) and from Piedmont to the northwest (3,305 deaths for 28,368 cases).
"The curve is down, it continues and it is a positive data," said midday the president of the Higher Institute of Health (ISS), Silvio Brusaferro.
A deconfinement started
Italy began its deconfinement Monday, with a supervised day parole regime which remains at the mercy of a resumption of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Italians hesitate between relief and worry, suffocated by almost two months of confinement, shaken by an economy on their knees and traumatized by the tens of thousands of deaths.
