Deconfinement: "What will be the exemptions to be able to cross borders?"

Most neighboring countries accept travel related to professional needs, health problems, or even reasons

After the unveiling of the deconfinement plan by Édouard Philippe last week, some practical questions remain unanswered. The Parisian mobilizes to respond. We are particularly interested in Karina's question: “What will be the exceptions to be able to cross borders? "

Deconfinement or not, on this point, little has changed since mid-March. Restrictions on France's borders with European countries (members of the European Union, Schengen area and the United Kingdom) have been "extended until June 15 at least" and the borders with non-European countries "will remain closed until further notice", Interior Minister Christophe Castaner announced last week.

To move abroad, everything depends on the decisions taken individually by the countries, which most often accept journeys linked to professional needs, health problems, or reasons relating to family need. It is then necessary to obtain information from the French embassy in the country in question.

To come to France, these reasons (health, family or professional) are also accepted. "The certificates of derogatory international travel to mainland France and overseas remain in force and can be downloaded from the website of the Ministry of the Interior," reminds us Beauvau. Other reasons are also listed on these certificates: transit to another country, people having their main residence in France, freight carriers or transport crews or carers who would come to help fight against the Covid-19 . The non-exhaustive list can be found here.

Another derogation has just been added to this list this Wednesday. It is now allowed to cross a border of France to exercise custody rights or to visit a relative in an Ehpad abroad. It is then necessary, as for the other cases, to be able to justify this trip outside France, by providing a certificate and documents highlighting the situation.
