Sana, a second generation Italian girl, a practicing Muslim who wears a veil, but lives her youth with carefree goes to parties with friends, even if she secretly leaves, for a prayer, this does not prevent her from laughing, joking and forward to feel feelings that no one can escape, because it is known if love knocks, it does so without asking permission.
For a series of incredible coincidences of fate comes a few days from the controversy unleashed on the net (and not only) by the release of the young Italian volunteer Silvia Romano, who has decided to embrace the Islamic faith, and less than a month from the maturity they will face the students, the first ones in the covid era, the fourth season of Skam Italia, the most loved TV series by the very young. The 100 days that separate them from the state exam, before becoming definitively adults, is at the center of the new episodes, from May 15th on TimVision and Netflix. The protagonist of this season is Sana (the beautiful Beatrice Bruschi) the Italian Muslim girl who is part of the Le Matte group, her difficulties in living adolescence following the precepts of the Koran will intertwine with the stories of the other school friends. The series, always written and directed by Ludovico Bessegato, screenwriter of the series and showrunner for Cross Productions since the first season, has made use of the collaboration of Sumaya Abdel Qader, sociologist, writer with already two novels published for Mondadori (the last What we have in mind), mother of three children, practicing Muslim, very active in her community and activist for women's rights, and that this season also plays the role of the mother of the protagonist: "I think Skam italia - says Sumaya - is a manifesto for diversity understood as plurality and specificity, issues that stimulate challenges, evolution and personal growth ".
"Sana - says Bruschi - is an Italian girl, a practicing Muslim, with parents of foreign origin after having sought over the years, a balance between her values and those of her high school friends and the Italian society, of which she feels proudly part, she will face situations that will slowly put this harmony in crisis. In a process of growth that will bring out some distances between her and her group of historical friends, she will have to find a compromise between her religious values and her feelings for Malik (Mehdi Meskar ), a friend of his brother with whom a strong understanding was born.
Directed by Ludovico Bessegato, the actor El Mehdi Meskar who grew up in Italy but has lived in Paris for years, points out: "A product alone cannot change the world, but in my small way I believe that cinema and TV can change society. I started acting with theater in elementary school. I've always dreamed of doing this job, but I never thought it was reality. One summer I went on vacation to Paris with my family. I was 13-14 years old and there were billboards for a film by a Maghrebi teenager. I saw these posters with this boy of my age and I said to myself "Maybe I can do this job". I believe that representing people can change many lives. Even if it was only one, that's enough. "
Sumaya Abdel Qader replying to a reporter who pointed out to her, underlined" I have two daughters, one wears a veil and the other doesn't. My husband and I never imposed anything, in fact even the largest we initially advised not to wear it because we feared prejudice. "" Imposition is the very negation of a creed. Young people today are much more natural in the face of the differences of a certain part of the population, even many Italians must be said are open to integration more than in other parts of Europe, then of course there is a dangerous regurgitation in some situations in the past. "
Skam could be attacked because of the hatred that developed with Silvia Romano? Fatally comes in this context. Ludovico Bessegato:" I don't know. The primary audience of Skam I think he is not influenced by the unpleasant tones of these days. I hope Skam 4 and this strange coincidence will allow as many people as possible to deepen the Muslim world. In addition to the Islam that the chronicles tell us, there are many forms, such as that of Sana and her family.
"I found a huge majority of people agree with the topics we are talking about. I don't have the feeling of living in a backward country. There is however another part of the country that does not agree on these issues, but he doesn't even get to look at Skam. "
Regarding Silvia Romano's choice to embrace Islam Sumaya Abdel Qader reflected "who are we to judge? If it is voluntary or imposed, the doubt is legitimate, especially in its conditions, because it was surrounded by criminals. Italy should have only welcoming Silvia, on the other hand, turned into judgment day. The problem is the passage from having doubt to building scenarios, insults, threats and ending up in intolerance ". But Sumaya Abdel Qader reiterates "One piece of country is mature, the other is not. I am sure that this season is perceived and seen in one way by young people, in yet another by more adult people. I already see it following the reactions of the social media. I am happy to have seen a positive and beautiful reaction among the younger groups on the character of Sana. Everyone wants to know Sana and her life, even by removing the prejudices. When someone allowed herself to say something about Sana or on the veil, there was an avalanche of answers to defend it. It was heartening. This tells us that the new generations have a different perspective from that of the old generations ". (HANDLE).
