Coronavirus: the benefits that containment has brought us

Continue the sport. To keep the line, to preserve one's mental hygiene or to flee the suffocating face-to-face with one's own, many of us have put on our sneakers and old shorts to (re) discover the joys of jogging. After so much effort, it would be a shame to stop there. Same fight for all those who have tested yoga, gym classes in video, training or weight training apps. Not only is it good for the body, but also for the wallet. Banco!

Strengthen family ties. Failing to see each other, we practiced video calls. Often the only way for lonely grandparents to share a moment with their grandchildren. New rituals have emerged: weekly aperitifs, shared meals at a distance, tutoring, stories told or mimed in front of the camera… Why stop there?

Slow down. Take time. The time to take care of your loved ones, the time to reflect, the time to dream, the time to meditate, the time to read, the time to contemplate nature and observe the stars ... And if we stopped running ? And if we continued to free ourselves from certain "obligations" to adopt the "carpe diem"?

Telework more often. We had to organize, find the means to streamline communication, multiply emails, schedule audio or video meetings and tame the sharing of documents. But we ended up enjoying it, this teleworking. Reserved for certain days of the week or for office tasks that require concentration, it even turns out to be damn effective. Not to mention the hours of transportation saved. The icing on the cake: no one dares to show up late for a Skype meeting.

Stay close to distant friends. Who hasn't been surprised to receive a text or a call from this lost friend, from someone who lives far too far to think about it on a daily basis, or from someone we really want to contact but for which you never find the time? Now, links are renewed and videoconferencing for two or a group has demonstrated its effectiveness. No more excuses to lose contact!

Tame your neighborhood. Segregated in a circle of 1 kilometer radius around our home, we surveyed corners that we had neglected until then. Discovered these flowered houses, this paved dead end, walked the alleys of the neighboring wood… In short, took a fresh look at our neighborhood. Finally, it is worth the detour.

Take care of your home. Redevelop and tidy up their accommodation so that everyone feels good there, embark on a DIY that has been postponed for a long time, cultivate fruit, vegetables and fragrant flowers ... And even, why not, review all of its decor. No need to be confined to make your home a real cocoon.

For others, this strange period made it possible to free oneself from obligations and take the time to rediscover yourself. / Freepik.com

Learn. What if I got into Spanish? What if I progressed on the piano? What if I take philosophy lessons or follow this dance master class? What if I finally understood how to install joints? What if I explore this website specializing in the life of sharks? In two months, we have rediscovered the joy of learning. Let's cultivate it!

Cook and eat better. With the exception of a few staunch refractories and other overworked workers, most of us have spent more time in the kitchen. Two meals a day, with a few products out of stock, had to be inventive. Renew with more varied and balanced menus. Dare to use local and seasonal products. Let's continue this momentum.

To play. Bring out the dusty Monopoly, settle down with your family around a table with a pack of cards, invent an "escape game" in your living room… It's so good to find your child's soul.

Cultivate the village spirit. Every evening at 8 p.m., we cheered by their side. We met them at the bottom of the building, at the end of the street. These faces, glimpsed so far, have become familiar to us. We took news from our neighbors, chatted, toasted (from afar) with them. Sometimes offering them a helping hand. We have created new links.

Develop children's autonomy. Without being able to devote all the necessary attention to them, work or telework obliges, we pushed them to be more autonomous. The youngest has figured out how to make his bed alone, when the older has successfully spaghetti Bolognese for the whole family. Some have learned to manage their school timetables. They know how to do things by themselves, and it's good to encourage them!

We will not miss it at all…

Start dishwashers and vacuum throughout the day. Because, inevitably, when we are all the time at home, we dirty everything very quickly.

Complete the derogatory travel certificate every day, especially to go to the bakery located 30 meters from your home.

The special confinement jokes received a good ten times each, and not always very funny.

Repeat the same walk almost 55 times, climb and descend 15 times in a row the same five steps of the staircase so that his 20 month old child can stretch his legs, cross the same neighbor who tells you, every day: It's long "…

The writers' confinement newspapers, which lament their confinement when they are installed in large Parisian apartments or refugees in their second home in the Basque Country.
