Steinerberg - Käserei Vogel AG  has detected bacteria in the cheese and the production facility as part of internal controls . According to the European rapid warning system RASFF, the products of the Swiss company reached Switzerland as well as Germany . They may also have been in circulation in Belgium .

We strongly advise against consuming the products *. The bacteria detected are namely Listeria (serotype 4B, ST6). The rod-shaped bacteria that were also found in French cheese could sometimes be fatal.

The Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) declares the risk of infection that the infection in healthy adults "has a harmless course with flu-like symptoms such as fever and muscle pain or vomiting and diarrhea".

However , it could also be fatal for certain risk groups . According to the LGL, this includes older and immunocompromised people and infants . The Swiss Federal Office for Food Safety and Veterinary Affairs BLV also includes pregnant women in the risk group. During pregnancy, a Listeria infection can lead to miscarriage, or the child can be born with blood poisoning or meningitis.

In total, several products could be affected by the bacterial infection *. It is important that this is cheese with the company number CH-5707 . This is proven on the packaging. Specifically, the following products could be affected.

If you have consumed any of the listed products with the corresponding company number, you should consult your family doctor - especially if they belong to the risk group described. 

It became clear in Germany in 2019 that the danger of listeria should not be underestimated. The food scandal surrounding Wilke-Wurst probably caused several deaths. Listeria had previously been found repeatedly in products.
