Apple is buying old movies and TV series to expand the catalog of its Apple TV + subscription service, currently focused on a few original contents, in order to make it competitive with giants such as Netflix, Amazon and Disney. Bloomberg reports.
According to rumors, Apple would have had meetings with Hollywood studios and would have already purchased the license for some old content. The Cupertino company would be keen to keep the focus on the original films and TV series, which are currently less than thirty, but would aim to enrich the offer in order to compete with rivals such as Netflix, which count thousands of titles.
Apple TV + has a monthly subscription of 4.99 euros, a lower figure than other services, and is free for one year for those who buy an Apple device, for example an iPhone. Still according to Bloomberg, the service at the end of February had 10 million registered users, but only half would actually use it.
