(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 20 - Legambiente blows out 40 environmental commitment and fight candles. And the results are in the numbers: 8 million citizens involved in Cleaning the world since '94, 10 thousand water samples monitored since 1986 with the Goletta Verde laboratory for the Nostrum sea, 600 thousand signatures for the petition 'Let's stop the planet fever', one thousand sheets with the writing 'No allo smog' hanging from the balconies of the district of Taranto drums, four neologisms coined ecomafia, eco-monsters, Terra dei fuochi and Grab. And to celebrate this evening at 9.30 pm webinar with the environment minister SergioCosta, Don Luigi Ciotti, Catia Bastioli, Cristina Fossi, PieroPelù and Filippo Solibello. Live on the Facebook and Suite pages of Legambiente and La Nuova Ecologia.

For the 40 years of Legambiente, the 200,000 people in the square in Rome on May 10, 1986 are remembered for the event organized 15 days after the Chernobyl nuclear disaster; the 700 Municipalities that also in 1986 approved the municipal resolution to ban the use of plastic bags ; the 25 thousand Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian children hosted in Italy for the therapeutic stay after exposure to nuclear radiation.

In addition, since 1988 with the Green Train the environmental association has completed 270 stages in the cities, almost 2,000 hours of environmental education for students, 4,300 hours of scientific monitoring of smog and noise. "Tenacity and coherence -explains Stefano Ciafani, national president of Legambiente - have always characterized our association which in these 40 years has carried out many environmental battles indicating a road to follow until the approval of important laws and the construction of plants, networks and infrastructures" . The care of our country and the enhancement of the environment - continuesCiafani - must be a priority for citizens as well as for the political agenda of any government. The difficult period that Italy is experiencing, affected by the coronavirus, shows once again how much the environment is a priority issue to be addressed and no longer postponed. So do not miss this important opportunity to really start the country in a green key ". (ANSA).
