(ANSA) - NEW DELHI, MAY 20 - The Indian state of West Bengal and western Bangladesh are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Cyclone Amphan which, according to the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department, should be brought down at 18, local time, on the Gulf of Bengal, in the middle of the Ganges delta, on the border between the two countries.
Yesterday the meteorologists had called Amphan (the pronunciation is "um-pun") a super cyclone, among the most devastating of the last decades, with winds that could have reached 200 kilometers of speed, but in its passage on the Indian state of the Odisha, this morning, the cyclone fortunately has persointensity. Millions of people in both countries have been evacuated as a precaution. The fear of Coronavirus contagion complicated the evacuation operations: many refused to move, fearing the overcrowding and the inevitable excessive proximity in the anticyclone shelters.
