(ANSA-AFP) - ATHENS, MAY 22 - Greece has extended until 7 June, both on the islands and on the mainland, the lockdown imposed on March 17 to contain the spread of the coronavirus in migrant fields that register a dangerous overcrowding. So far, among the 168 deaths from Covid-19 registered in Greece, the authorities do not report any deaths in the migrant camps present largely in the Aegean islands. In the fields, however, massive screening tests only started in early May. Only two migrants who arrived on the island of Lesbos in early May proved positive and were placed in quarantine. In the camp of Moria, one of the most overcrowded in Europe, no contagion has been recorded so far, but NGOs have expressed their fear that immigrant rights could be eroded by anti-virus restrictions. More than 33,000 asylum seekers live in the five fields of the Aegean islands, with a total capacity of 5,400 people and approximately 70,000 in other structures on the mainland.
