The country plans to reduce measures at airports. Flights from other European countries will not resume until June 15.

After Greece and Italy, Portugal says it is ready to welcome foreign visitors for the summer season. "Tourists are welcome," Foreign Minister Augusto Santos Silvadit announced on Friday in the columns of the Observador. The temperature of travelers will be raised on arrival by plane but no quarantine measure will be imposed on arrivals, he said.

Portugal, where the death of 1,289 people is attributed to Covid-19, has gradually eased containment measures since May 4.

Less affected than other southern European countries, Spain and Italy in particular, the country has already authorized the reopening under conditions of shops and restaurants in order to attract the foreign tourists it needs to revive its economy.

"The Portuguese health system is responding well and it is very important for us to be able to welcome people," said the minister.

Flights to and from the European Union remain suspended until June 15, with the exception of the connection between the country and other Portuguese-speaking destinations, Brazil in particular.

The land border between Spain and Portugal will remain closed until at least June 15.
