Health Minister Yuli (Joel) Edelstein announced a short time ago that he intends to appoint Prof. Hezi Levy as the office's CEO. This is subject to government approval. This is in line with the principle he set for himself - assuming the appointment of a professional CEO.

Brigadier General (res.) Prof. Levy (64), married to Rebecca, father of three children and granddaughter. Born to Iraqi-born parents. Served as Chief Medical Officer until 2007. He was then Senior Vice President and Head of Medical Administration at the Ministry of Health. In 2012, he was elected director of the Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, and in 2018, a life award was awarded by the Minister of Health for Health Professionals.

Levi, a surgical specialist, participated in the First Lebanon War and then headed an IDF Humanitarian Assistance Mission to Kosovo and participated in humanitarian aid missions in Zaire, Kenya, Macedonia, Turkey, and Rwanda.

Prof. Levi's "project of his life" was the establishment of the emergency room, a ground hospital and Barzilai's armored surgical rooms that are now considered one of the most armored and technological in the world.

In the past year, a Brazilian hospital under his leadership has won third place in the public satisfaction survey - a jump from the bottom it once was. At the same time, he established free supplementary medicine for hospitalized children. Prof. Levy is regarded as an authority director who fights to the end to get what the body he represents needs him. This was the case with the budgets he had secured for the hospital's emergency room, and so was during his long career in the military.

He also has extensive experience in emergency medicine, which was an important parameter in his choice of health minister. Minister Edelstein asked Prime Minister Netanyahu to bring the appointment for government approval as soon as possible.

Edelstein: "At such a time, with the need to prepare for the second wave of the Corona virus and to put the health system in Israel's priority, Prof. Hezi Levy is the right person for the job. The vast experience he has accumulated over the years and his successes in the various arenas ensure his success in the important role Director General of the Ministry of Health. I would also like to thank the current CEO of the firm, Moshe Barr, for a good sign of his strenuous and important work.
