VIDEO. Renault closes its Choisy-le-Roi plant: "It is not the weak link in the group"

2020-05-29T20:27:58.250Z

The 260 employees of the site were gathered to express their "misunderstanding" faced with the transfer of its activity to the Flins factory

All gathered in front of the ivy-covered buildings on the avenue de Villeneuve-Saint-Georges, employees of the Renault site in Choisy-le-Roi came to protest against the closure of their "family factory".

As early as 7 a.m., they were already outside to denounce the car company's decision to transfer their "unique know-how in Europe" to the Flins plant (Yvelines).

One of the first steps in the group's restructuring plan, which hopes to save 2 billion euros over 3 years, with the elimination of 4,600 jobs in France and more than 10,000 abroad.

"Choisy-le-Roi is not the weak link in the Renault group," insists Iman Mateur, logistics manager for the factory. "We have been making efforts for a while and the site is profitable," adds the section chief of the CFE CGC union Stéphane Maillet, for whom the announcement of the closure remains "incomprehensible".

The Choisy site, which has just celebrated its 70th anniversary, is the only one to specialize in "standard exchange", the refurbishment of parts for the after-sales management of Renault, Nissan Europe, and Daimler, then sold at the lowest cost.

“What we are doing here, it is only us who are capable of it, testifies this employee who has worked there for two years. There have even been hires recently ”.

For many, the transfer of activity to the Flins factory is problematic. "Casually it's 2 hours by car from here, so it might be complicated to keep our living environment," says Aurélie, workshop manager. "It's been a week since most of us have had sleeplessness. In the economic situation of France today, we do not know what we will do tomorrow. Unfortunately, when you have a job, you want to keep it. ”
