Deux-Sèvres: massive screening reveals thirty cases of Covid in a military school

2020-05-30T03:49:23.375Z

More than 1900 tests were carried out after the identification of three cases among the managers of the establishment.

Contact case research, practical case. A massive screening campaign conducted this week on the site of the military school of Saint-Maixent-L'Ecole (Deux-Sèvres), allowed to identify 30 positive cases, which were isolated, on more than 1900 people tested , announced Friday the Regional Health Agency (ARS) and the prefecture.

Screening at the National School of Active Non-Commissioned Officers (ENSOA), was decided after the identification since May 18 of three cases of Covid-19 among school executives, all asymptomatic cases, the first detected having been in contact with a sick member of his household.

"All asymptomatic"

As part of the tracing, 44 people were then identified as "contact persons" for this first case, and the preventive screening then proposed, had revealed two other positive cases, also instructors, in the professional environment of the first.

The authorities have therefore decided on a general screening, started on Monday, of all 1,800 "civilians, students and military personnel" on the site, and which ultimately involved 1,913 people, carried out by the medical teams of the ENSOA, Niort hospital and Poitiers university hospital.

The assessment is of 30 positive cases, "all asymptomatic", distributed approximately in equal proportion between personnel and pupils, one clarified with the Army. Each case "led to the isolation of people with Covid-19" at their home, "to the systematic search for close cases at risk, to their isolation and to the prescription of a screening test for each of them" , said the ARS and the prefecture.

“Circumscribed” home

Friday, a few hours before the final results, the director general of the ARS Michel Laforcade said he was "not worried" for ENSO with "between 25 and 30 cases, ie a positivity rate equal to that in the population" .

The results of the large-scale screening confirm "that the home is well circumscribed", "the efficiency of the monitoring system", and "do not call into question the normal functioning of the ENSO, as part of the precautionary measures and recommended by health authorities, "said a spokesman for the Army.

The ENSO is a command school providing general training and development of non-commissioned officers for the French Army. Its site, which houses other defense organizations, brings together 1,800 people, including around 1,500 students and school supervisors. It had reduced its activity to 50% during the confinement period, sending a number of students home, then gradually resumed post-May 11 "an activity adapted" to the context and recommendations, to around 75% of its capacity.
