The image that is shared, even if with different messages, is usually the same: on the left is a photomontage of a large and strong dog and on the right, a weaker and smaller dog. This montage, although used in different contexts, is used to compare two epochs with each other and parody the changes that have occurred.

This meme - known as Swole Doge vs. Cheems , "dog you catch against Cheems" - was born just a few weeks ago, but has spread rapidly on various social networks. As the Know Your Meme encyclopedia of memes explains , the first image copy was uploaded on May 16 to the Reddit forum by user DiegoGamer. In it, this internet user made a joke about how at 17 his father already had a house, a job and children, and he at that age was simply wishing to be a "cute anime girl".

My father at 17: Honey, I'm home, how are the kids? | Me at 17: Oh, I would love to be a cute anime girl

In the following days, other people were using this model from Reddit until it was first spread on Facebook, and later on Twitter and Instagram. Although there are some memes that take place only on certain social networks, in this case in Spain the joke has become popular both on Twitter and Instagram.

Although it is a recent meme, its use resembles that of another popular prank called Virgin vs Chad . It compares two people in the same way, presenting one in an overly positive way ( chad ) and the other in a deliberately negative way ( virgin ).
