Hundreds of residents, outraged by the closure of the borders between San Luis and Córdoba , broke the police barricades and forced the authorities to form a sanitary corridor to attend to patients isolated by the coronavirus.

It all happened after the death of a 41-year-old neighbor who was trying to cross to La Paz, a Cordovan town near Merlo to bring food to his children and his wife.

Mario Javier Cortés (41) died when his vehicle was stuck on an armed embankment to prevent crossing. The man tried to stop the vehicle with his body and was crushed to death.

Aware of the accident, the neighbors reacted with fury and indignation and left with picks and shovels to knock down the slopes.

Incidents in Merlo after the death of a man who tried to cross the closed border with Córdoba with his car.

The residents of La Paz and neighboring towns of the Sierras del Comechingones have been demanding that the authorities of San Luis and Córdoba give them solutions to their isolation problems aggravated by the pandemic. The complaints reached the mayors who made their claims to no avail.

The incidents of last Saturday forced the presence of the Chief of Staff of the province of San Luis, Natalia Zavala Chacur, who attended accompanied by other officials and also by the mayor of La Paz, Gustavo Achuel.

Some 700 residents of La Paz work in Merlo who must go and return daily and with the borders closed the problems added to the isolation.

Merlo's doctor, Raúl Urquiza, had been warning of the situation for two months, not long after the isolation began, since patients from the town of La Pazthey did not attend their pregnancy controls due to the prohibition to go to San Luis.

Together with the mayor of Merlo, Juan Álvarez Pinto, they presented several notes to the Government of San Luis claiming for the situation and without having an answer.

Now, the San Luis Crisis Committee will open a sanitary corridor with security protocols so that those 700 residents are attending to them. On the part of the Córdoba authorities, they will make their own with the residents of the area in Cordovan territory.
