Anti-racist movement causes resignations from US newsrooms

Senior executives from the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquier and Refinery29 had to leave the newsroom.


The New York Times newspapersand Philadelphia Inquirer ; the female Refinery29 site, owned by Vice Media; Condé Nast's star culinary magazine, Bon Appétit . In less than 48 hours, these four titles saw the departure of their editorial directors or influential editors in front of virulent and public criticism from a part of their collaborators, and more particularly from non-white employees. If the origins of these departures are different, they are part of the anti-racist movement that has shaken the United States since the death of George Floyd, suffocated by a police officer during his arrest in Minneapolis.

"Send the troop" against the demonstrators, described as "rioters" , "insurgents" and "thugs" . The column of Republican Senator Tom Cotton, published on June 3 in the Opinions section of the New York Times , caused an unprecedented bronca in the daily. Over 800 journalists signed a letter to the newspaper’s management
