E3 & Gamescom 2020: These digital replacement events must not be missed by gamers

E3 and Gamescom will not take place in 2020 as usual. There are numerous replacement events in which innovations are presented online via streams. You can find an overview of the dates here.

  • Due to the corona virus, E3 and Gamescom will not take place in the exhibition halls this year as usual.
  • But gamers don't have to be disappointed, as many developers and organizers offer live streams on the Internet as a replacement.

Not only E3 but also Gamescom cannot take place in the exhibition halls as usual due to the spread of the corona virus. Large events of this kind would pose a risk to the health of the visitors. But video game fans do not have to worry about the announcement of new games: the studios and organizers have announced numerous replacement dates that will take the form of live streams on the Internet - including Gamescom 2020 .

Summer Game Fest from May to August: Cyberpunk 2077, Ghost of Tsushima and more

The Summer Game Fest  was launched by Geoff Keighley, who is also a producer of the Game Awards. This is a series of several streams that contain news about games, demos and other information about games. Many studios have joined this event collective, including CD Projekt REDUbisoft, EA and Sony *. The dates of the streams of the Summer Game Fest are constantly updated on the website. The respective live streams can also be found there. These are the upcoming presentations:

  • May 14 : Playstation State of Play: "Ghost of Tsushima"
  • June 9 to 14 : Steam Game Festival
  • June 18 : EA Play (postponed June 11)
  • June 25 : CD Projekt RED: "Cyberpunk 2077 *" Night City Wire
  • July 11 : Tennocon 2020 ("Warframe")
  • July 12 : Ubisoft Forward ("Assassin's Creed Valhalla *", "Watch Dogs Legion", "Rainbow Six Quarantine")
  • August 27 : Gamescom Opening Night Live

    Guerilla Collective from June 13th to 15th: collective of indie developers

Guerilla Collective is also an event that was created to fill the gap in the E3. Participants primarily include smaller indie developer studios. The whole thing can be followed on the official Twitch channel.

When does it take place ? From  June 13th to 15th there will be live streams every day from 7 p.m. The following studios take part in the Guerilla Collective:

  • Humble Bundle  ("Temtem")
  • Larian Studios ("Baldur's Gate 3 *", "Divinity: Original Sin 2")
  • Paradox: Interactive ("Cities: Skylines", "Stellaris")
  • Versus Evil  ("The Banner Saga", "Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire")

Summer of gaming in June

Summer of Gaming is not to be confused with the already mentioned and very similar sounding Summer Game Fest. This is a separate event, which is organized by IGN in June. There will also be live streams here.

When does it take place? It is not yet clear on which platform and on which dates this will be, but there is already a list of participants. These include:

  • 2K ("Borderlands 3", "NBA 2K20")
  • Bandai Namco ("Dark Souls 3", "Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot", "Elden Ring")
  • Blizzard  ("Diablo 4", "World of Warcraft: Shadowlands")
  • CD project RED ("The Witcher 3", "Cyberpunk 2077")
  • Electronic Arts ("Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order", "Need for Speed ​​Heat")
  • Ubisoft ("Assassin's Creed Valhalla", "Watch Dogs Legion")
  • Xbox

PC Gaming Show and Future Games Show in June

The PC Gaming Show  usually reports on the E3, with a special focus on the PC games shown. There will probably be no exclusive premieres here, but the annual show always offers interesting insights at the developer studios. However, more announcements, news and trailers are to be presented this year. 

When does it take place? The whole thing will be broadcast on June 6th via Twitch on the PCGamer channel. The exact times and participants will be announced.

The PCGamer partner site GamesRadar will also offer live streams that complement the content of the PC Gaming Show.

When does it take place? From June 8th to 14th,  exclusive trailers, announcements and impressions of top games will be shown for one hour every day. The focus is on current and next-gen consoles, but also on mobile and streaming platforms for games. The live streams will be broadcast on Twitch, Youtube and other channels. The times are still pending here.

Gamescom 2020: purely digital and free

The conclusion of the Summer Game Fest is also the starting signal for Gamescom 2020, which will take place digitally this year.

When does it take place? On August 27th it starts with Gamescom: Opening Night Live - moderated by Geoff Keighley. The digital replacement fair ends on August 30th . All contents of Gamescom 2020 are shown free of charge via live streams. The program contains the following points:

  • Gamescom now : content hub (premieres, news, games, let's player, esports, cosplay, indie games)
  • Gamescom Shows : Awesome Indies, Daily Show, Gamescom Studio, Best of Show
  • Devcom : Talks, shows, master classes from developers
