It is a site within the site. Since Monday, the teams working on the consolidation and reconstruction of Notre-Dame de Paris have been tackling the gigantic scaffolding, put in place before the fire in April 2019.
Originally installed to renovate the famous spire, the scaffolding has become a tangle of metal tubes, completely deformed by the heat of the brazier. This Tuesday, rope access technicians, nicknamed the "squirrels", began to descend as close as possible to the structure to saw the first tubes.
Upstream, this operation required serious security works, notably by installing metal beams to avoid a possible collapse, and by erecting a new light scaffolding on either side of the old one.
In all, the burned scaffolding consists of 40,000 pieces and weighs 200 tonnes ... The operation should last all summer.
