  • The "The Future of Gaming" presentation was finally ready.
  • Sony introduced two models of the Playstation 5.

We've known what the Xbox Series X * will look like for quite a while. Microsoft already presented its own next-gen console at the end of 2019. Sony let its fans fidget for a long time, but finally the Playstation 5 was introduced.

Update of June 11, 2020: Sony has unveiled the PS5

Sony hadn't said anything in advance, but viewers hoped to finally  be able to see Playstation 5 . After first showing a brief review of old and a preview of numerous new Playstation titles, Sony fulfilled the fans' wish and unveiled the new console

Here's what it looks like:

The PS5 can also be placed horizontally.

The white controller almost made it suspect: The console is also mostly white - even if this will take some getting used to for one or the other Playstation fan. However, this is only the standard edition anyway. More color choices will likely appear after launch. In addition to the standard edition, there will also be a  purely digital edition of the PS5, which will almost certainly be cheaper - Sony has probably copied a bit from the Xbox here. It is still unclear whether the digital edition will be launched at the same time.

The PS5 will also be launched as a pure digital edition - without a drive for Blu-Ray discs.

Update of June 4, 2020: Sony has postponed the PS5 event indefinitely

Actually, a big PS5 event was supposed to take place today on June 4th, in which not only numerous game titles were to be shown, but probably also the console itself for the first time. However, Sony has now postponed the presentation indefinitely. The reason for this is the current state of emergency in the USA.

The official Playstation Twitter channel says: "While we understand that players around the world are excited to see PS5 games, we believe that it is not time to celebrate now and for now we want to hold back and let more important voices have their say. "

Sony has not yet given an alternative date and it is currently difficult to say whether the event will be postponed for days or weeks. The description of the announcement trailer on YouTube only says that a new date will be given soon.

The information has been confirmed: Sony will finally announce new information about Playstation 5 in a few days. Larger as well as smaller and newer studios are said to have worked hard on developing games - these should demonstrate the potential of the hardware.

The details of the PS5 event:

  • When? On June 4th at 10 p.m. CEST.
  • Where? On the official YouTube and Twitch channel.
  • What? One-hour presentation of multiple PS5 titles that will be available shortly after launch.

Although Jim Ryan does not mention a presentation of the console, it is very likely that we will be shown the design of the PS5 for the first time. Update of May 28, 2020: Sony will launch PS5 next week, according to insiders

After the evidence of a Sony event condensed in early June, games journalist Jason Schreier now wants to have heard from anonymous insiders that this should probably take place on June 3 (via Bloomberg). This date has now also been confirmed by Venturebeat's Jeff Grubb, who also claims to have learned this from sources who are familiar with the company's plans.

On this day, the Playstation 5 will be presented. However, it is not expected that Sony will reveal all the essential details when the console is first presented. Therefore, the price and the specific release date will still be withheld. However, further events are planned in the coming weeks and months, in which Sony will share further information with the public.

Recently, the well-informed video game journalist Jason Schreier spoke in the Press Start podcast (via wccftech) about a scheduled date from Sony at which the PS5 * will be presented. He expects this to take place between early and mid-June. However, due to the corona virus crisis, he could not rule out a delay in the event. At Sony, everything is still going according to schedule. The company recently confirmed this itself - the planned release date of the PS5 for the Christmas season 2020 * is still planned.

Venturebeat's games journalist Jeff Grubb recently even announced a specific date for Sony's planned event. For the first time he mentioned June 4 in a forum post as a planned date. But this does not seem to be set in stone. Because, according to Grubb, Sony plans to unveil the PS5 on a different date (via Venturebeat). However, it should only be postponed by a few days - this is not a week-long delay. The Sony event will definitely take place in early June.

In the meantime, however, he was no longer sure whether the presentation of the console was still intended for this appointment. It was possible, but he could not confirm this. Should Sony still wait for the unveiling, according to Grubb, the PS5 will be presented at the latest as part of another "State of Play" event in August.

What will be shown at the beginning of June?

Sony will almost certainly announce numerous next-gen games at the event in early June. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida recently revealed in a company meeting that "a convincing line-up of game titles" will soon be presented (via VGC).

Will the color of the PS5 be white?

There was already a first taste of the PS5: Sony introduced the DualSense *, the official controller of the PS5, a while ago. Leaker recently claimed to already know the price of the DualSense *. What is particularly striking about the controller is the unusual white design, which was not well received by every Playstation fan. This also gave rise to speculation that the standard version of the console could possibly get the same color.

Ultimately, the design * shouldn't matter to most players as long as the improvements to the next-gen come into play. Epic developers recently demonstrated what this could look like with a gameplay demo on the PS5 *. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney says that the SSD built into the PS5 should even outperform high-end PCs *.
