The Playstation 5 is revealed

Sony's next home console, available later this year, reveals its futuristic design and some of the headlines for the first time

Global health crisis forces, it is online during a global conference broadcast on the Net that Sony has chosen, this Thursday evening, to reveal the contours of its next home console. The Playstation 5, which will be available at the end of the year, probably in November, revealed its futuristic contours to fans of video games. The Japanese giant has so far said nothing about the price at which the PS5 will be sold but, according to some indiscretions bet on a price range starting at 450 €.

The PS5 will be offered in two versions, one classic in which we will insert as we do today a game DVD, and a second, called Digital Edition, cheaper and private player on which it will only be possible to download Internet games.

To seduce its future buyers, the Sony console, which will replace the current Playstation 4 marketed in 2013, puts on a resolutely futuristic look. Posed vertically, it sports two white lacquered side panels with both chiseled and aerial lines, thus moving away from the classic design in the form of a black monolithic block to be discreetly placed under a television.

Under the hood, the PS5 fires full force and will be able to display games in ultra high definition on 4K screens and even 8K next generation, while flattering the ears with a 3D audio reproduction system. Players will put their thumbs on a brand new wireless controller, dubbed DualSense, offering vibrational sensations even finer and more realistic than those of the current DualShock.

But this debauchery of power, both graphic and computational, would be nothing without the games, real stars of this conference with no less than twenty novelties, some of which exclusively playable on the PS5, presented at a frantic pace during just over an hour. Some great classics are obviously there, like the sequels of Spiderman, Gran Turismo, NBA 2K21, Hitman, Horizon or even a new episode of the adventures of Rachet and Clank. A small disappointment, however: the famous GTA 5, released in 2013, will only be offered an improved version on PS5 at the start of next year and not an episode 6 from the commercialization of the console as hoped by its many fans .

The catalog of the future Sony console does not stop at these classics of the genre and shows its willingness to open up to titles focusing less on explosive graphic effects than on poetic universes. Several amazing games, often from the imagination of independent development studios, were honored to be presented this Thursday evening. Jett the Far, available at the end of the year, is one of them, promising a contemplative space adventure with a universe favoring pastel and sepia colors. In a completely different genre, Goodbye Volcano High (available in 2021), with its cartoon graphic paw depicting schoolboys in the guise of dinosaurs, and Solar Ash Kingdom and its threadlike heroine with long black hair lost in a world surrealist. A French title, Deathloop, imagined by the Lyon studio Arkane (to whom we owe Dishonered and Prey), was particularly illustrated with its universe as quirky and crazy as a film by Quentin Tarentino.
