A plane of the Aerolineas Argentinas company is flying today to Rome with a group of 227 passengers, mostly Italian citizens who return to their homeland after a long absence. ANSA learned it from airport sources.
Departed at 11.45pm from Ezeiza airport in Buenos Aires, the AR1140 plane will arrive at Fiumicino airport this afternoon. After a technical stop, he will return to the base in South America with numerous Argentinian passengers. With today's one, the Italian Embassy, and the Italian consulates in various Argentine provinces, have organized nine direct flights (seven over Rome and two over Milan) in coordination with the Ministry of Crisis Unit, with which they have been repatriated almost 1,400 non-resident Italians and over 300 citizens to other European destinations.
To these must be added an unspecified number of other Italian tourists who returned with Alitalia flights as long as this was possible, also via Brazil.
The total paralysis of air transport in Argentina, which should last until September 1, makes the transfer of those stranded in provinces far from the capital particularly difficult.
Furthermore, the rules of social distancing on board, set by ENAC on the orders of the Italian Ministry of Health, make intercontinental flights particularly onerous. Between June and July, Alitalia should be able to organize two other special humanitarian flights.
