Exclusive Interview: Ser Anzoategui tells his experience as a non-binary genre

2020-06-19T23:19:05.647Z

On the occasion of the LGBTQ + month, Ser Anzoategui spoke with Latinx Now! on gender identity and explained the meaning of non-binary gender.

For Ser Anzoategui , who defines himself as non-binary gender and personifies Eddy in the Starz series , "Vida", the new term "latinx" is important in a context of inclusion of gender identity, which according to Ser does not have nothing to do with sexuality.

On the occasion of pride month, Anzoategui opened his heart and spoke exclusively with Latinx Now! about the change that is currently experienced regarding the identity of a person, which can change at any time and that's fine.

As part of the LGBTQ + community, Ser was sincere about the moment in which he felt he belonged to this inclusion group.

"I really had my experience and I knew, 'This feels good, and not only does it feel good, I am also free,'" he said.

"I go through my day to day and I feel this vibration, this energy that I have never felt before, that's where I said, yes, I am definitely queer, " he said.

The Hollywood star acknowledged that the term "non-binary" to define people is often misunderstood. The main misconception that people have about this new form of inclusion is because it is thought to be a label that defines someone in a single way, which, as Ser explains, is not so.

It is about someone who defines their gender as non-binary, which is marked by society as two opposites that would be only female or male, can be both or be in the middle, something that is only in terms of gender identity, but not sexuality.

The LGBTQ + community breaks the stigmas and conservative norms of society under which Ser once had to live. That is why, currently, with all the information he has and the freedom in which he lives, he has an important message for his " me "from the past.

"I want you to know that everything you've been through has a reason for being, write it down and keep it in mind. Remember that your intuition and how you feel about something is actually the right thing to do," Anzoategui said. "Just keep moving forward and love everyone around you," he added.

On who has been his great ally in this fight, Ser said that, in addition to members of the community, film producer Roland Palencia has not only been an ally for himself, but also for many others.

In 2011, Palencia was named new CEO of Equality California, the state's gay rights group.

Roland is a pioneering LGBTQ activist and founded a number of Queer Latinx organizations in the 1980s, including Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos and VIVA !, an arts organization.

Currently, he is the Director of Community Benefits and a leadership coach at LA Care Health Plan, the nation's largest public health plan.

Ser Anzoategui believes that he has no other option, but to share with his fans part of what he is and how he has integrated into the LGBTQ + community, since he considers it important to express himself and create his own characters, since he did not have the opportunity to be part of castings .

"When talking about employment, it is very important to hire members of the LGBTQ + community to close the gap for transgender people who are not taken into account," he said.

"I had no other option but to produce my own work and that is the story that I found myself needing to tell," he added. "I was tired of keeping silent and feeling invisible, it is time to tell my story on my own terms and be aware of others as well," he said.
