The vice minister of Health of the province of Buenos Aires, Nicolás Kreplak, warned this Tuesday that " there are concrete possibilities that the health system will collapse ", since the peak of coronavirus infections and the decrease in cases have not yet been reached, and stressed that to evaluate the results of the new restrictions on public transport, it is necessary to wait 15 days.
Therefore, he assured that "it would be feasible to return to a strict phase 1 quarantine for two weeks and then relax for other weeks."
"There are concrete possibilities that the health system will collapse," the vice minister said in statements made to Radio Provincia and El Destape radio.
Kreplak maintained that "in all the countries that have had the epidemic, like Argentina, they have collapsed in the health system" and assumed: "I do not come to say what people want to hear but what is necessary to prevent, such as when a person has cholesterol and I tell you as a doctor that you do not have to eat choripan, this is a pandemic, there are countries that opened and had to close again . "
"The situation also overflowed in countries that have the most developed health systems and that were not abandoned by four years of neoliberalism, as happened to our system," he added.
When asked about the new measures aimed at restricting the use of public transport for people who carry out essential activities, he said that it is still too early to analyze the results and that their impact can be determined within the next 15 days.
"On the one hand, it can help a little to flatten the curve but it is difficult to evaluate it now, to see if these measures had an impact, you have to wait 15 days, and I think that you have to make stronger decisions before you can evaluate the impact of these measures, by the increase in infections, "he said.
In this sense, he maintained that the decisions must be taken together in the entire Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires: "The political-administrative limit is of no importance for epidemiology.
