Farewell to the 'Roman Summer': from today the historic event invented 43 years ago by Renato Nicolini to return the public spaces to the Romans is retiring. Or rather, it will be included under the umbrella of 'Romarama', the maxi-schedule of cultural events in the capital which will extend from July to December. The new format, which replaces that of 1977, was presented by the mayor Virginia Raggi and the deputy mayor with responsibility for Culture Luca Bergamo: "It is as if the Roman summer had conquered the rest of the year - explained the deputy mayor - not we could call it 'summer'. The name is not exactly beautiful, I take responsibility for it ... but it makes you remember ".

"It's a name of impact," said Raggi with amusement. So the 'brand' 'Estate Romana' will no longer exist; it survives only by suggestion in the slogan of the event, 'The art that moves the city', a reminder, Bergamo explained, to the text of 'The evening of miracles' by Lucio Dalla; new also the graphics that will accompany the appointments, with its colorful cats. And then there is the Covid theme: Romarama is in fact the cultural project of 'Phase 3', and if Nicolini wanted to return the squares 'stolen' from the years of lead to the Romans, the Capitol aspires to recover them from the Coronavirus emergency: " We felt the need for a new name - explained Raggi - not so much because the values ​​of the Roman summer have changed, but because the reality is different, a reflection that concerns the whole year. It seemed fundamental to give a message of enjoyment of cultural life in public spaces, of which we must always regain possession ". meanwhile, a wide range of initiatives has been published that will be included in Romarama: "A program of events and performances between Teatro India and Argentina - added the deputy mayor - a new location for the Opera at the Circus Maximus; the return of the concerts to the Cavea dell'Auditorium with a poster that goes from Diodato, to Daniele Silvestri, to five great classical music evenings with the Accademia di Santa Cecilia and Antonio Pappano, the reopening of MACRO, a large art exhibition en plen air at Villa Borghese, a new international exhibition of contemporary photography at the Slaughterhouse, the birth of the new Periphery Museum in Tor Bella Monaca, a new exhibition space at Villa Caffarelli which inaugurates with an exhibition expected for decades, that of Torlonia marble, new itinerant libraries that they will wander around the city.
