Matthieu Delormeau: "I will not be in TPMP at the start of the school year"

The columnist announces to the Parisian that he is leaving the Cyril Hanouna show on C8, of which he has been one of the pillars since 2015.

After five seasons as a columnist in "Touche pas à mon poste" on C8, Matthieu Delormeau announces to "Parisien" that he is leaving Cyril Hanouna's show. At 46, the presenter wishes to live other adventures. And not necessarily on television.

"Don't touch my post" ("TPMP") officially ended its season last night. Will you be back at school?

MATTHIEU DELORMEAU. No, everything has an end and you have to know how to move on. I announced it to Cyril Hanouna a few days ago. I want to live new adventures, on television, on the radio, on stage or on a movie set ... If I don't do it now, I will never do it. I'm not looking for a job, I'm looking for a project where I can learn things that I can't do.

You have nothing planned for the start of the school year?

No. I don't know what I'm going to do in September. I have no discussion with anyone, no salary waiting for me elsewhere. We are very well paid at "TPMP". So it's a risk, especially when a lot of the media is firing! I don't have a family to feed, so it's easier for me to make that kind of decision.

How did Cyril Hanouna react?

Very good ! He made proposals to me to stay but he understood my approach. He told me something that touched me: “Know that your room is still there. When he could have answered me, "It's nice but goodbye." "

Three years ago, when you talked about the departure of Enora Malagré, another emblematic columnist for the show, you said: "She laughed less and she thought she had done the trick. "Is that your case?

No, it's the opposite ! I still have so much fun at "TPMP". We laughed a lot this season. That's why I hesitated. But I prefer to leave telling myself that everything is fine, rather than telling myself, one day, like Enora, that I am no longer having fun. Basically, I'm happy to leave after a happy season.

Is your decision related to the fact that your Friday show “TPMP people” stops?

Not at all. All of this became clear in my head before the coronavirus crisis. And the stop of "TPMP people" was decided when C8 had to adapt to the economic consequences. To be honest, I would have liked the program to continue, picked up by Valérie Bénaïm, Benjamin Castaldi or Jean-Michel Maire.

Can you imagine yourself as an actor?

I found myself not bad in hidden cameras (laughs) . More seriously, I want to learn to become an actor, work, prove myself ... Do everything to not disappoint the people who will trust me.

You talk about cinema, theater, radio. Is TV over?

No. No, nothing is finished. I walk by the blow of heart. I already had several lives, I was in finance before being animator then producer. Cyril and C8 changed my life. They took me under their wings five years ago, when I was fired from NRJ. Cyril said to me, "If you want it to work, be yourself. And, actually, I started to like the day I stopped playing the heterosexual host, the ideal 35-year-old son-in-law. Today, this single, homosexual who does sports and sometimes pushes me a lot like me.

Your trip to "TPMP" was not a long, calm river. There have been difficult times, like this hidden camera from 2016, when Cyril Hanouna asked you to endorse a murder. Or the sequence of "noodles in panties". Do you have any regrets?

No. "TPMP" is three hours of live show. If you don't get out of it, it's because you made a bad show. You take cream pies or noodles in your panties. I did this for five years because it amused me. Sometimes I didn't want to party, but I never felt humiliated. My only regret is that, on television, there is no room for nuance. Debates are often binary. You are yellow vests or a bastard rich man, you are racist or anti-police. It's complicated to explain that you are both anti-racist and that you support the police… Especially since you never have more than five minutes to present your opinion. Shocking arguments are needed. I could fall into easy criticism and words went beyond my thinking. With hindsight, I was caricatured in criticizing Arthur, when at the bottom, he is a sacred animator. Ditto for Sophie Davant, to whom I apologized.

You didn't say goodbye on the air!

Thursday was not the time. The last of the season was very festive. So I say goodbye through your title. And I thank for the thousands of very nice messages I have received. I am sure I will come back as a guest. Because I'm aware that I was on the show where it was happening at the time it was happening. A bit like those who worked on "Cuckoo, it's us" or "Nowhere else".
