Feelings of disapproval , which are present in 44.1% of cases, followed by those of anger , which occur 30% of the time: it is the result of the semantic analysis and emojis associated with hate speech content emerged from the DataMediaHub research and KPI. A research that took into account the Twitter conversations from April 25 to June 17 to try to understand the diffusion of the phenomenon that is normally collected in the definition of 'hate speech' .

The thematic areas in which the greatest conflict is concentrated - it emerges - are related to law, government, and politics , which weighs over a quarter of the total (26%). Other areas in which there is a particular concentration of hate speech is that of news , which is the starting point for discussions. If 19% of hate speeches are concentrated in the news area, the other area in which there is a strong concentration of hate speech (13% of the total) is sport , and in particular in football, with some players target of criticism.

Were examined by the research seven categories of hate speech: generic, sexism, homophobia,  r azzismo, anti-Semitism, discrimination, territorial, political ideologies .

A total of 679 thousand tweets and 263 thousand shares were identified by 148 thousand unique users, containing at least one of the terms that can be included in the categories indicated above. This is 3.7% of the tweets posted in the period on the social platform in question. As for the unique users, considering that, according to the latest available data, Twitter counts 10.5 million, the 148 thousand are 1.4%. Most are 'generic' insults, which - according to the analysis - represent almost two thirds of the total.

According to research, more than two thirds of those who are protagonists of insults and incitement to hatred are male and mainly concentrate in the age group between 25 and 44 years, which overall weighs 64.4%

If the area that gives rise to major controversies and excesses is that related to law, government, and politics, there is almost everyone. As the word cloud shows - again according to the analysis - we go to Matteo Salvini, passing through Giorgia Meloni and Giuseppe Conte, to mention those who appear most targeted by hate speech.

Other politicians who are particularly targeted are Matteo Renzi, present in 0.5% of the total quotations analyzed. The same incidence for Luigi Di Maio, while both Carlo Calenda and Claudio Borghi both appear in 0.4% of cases. Half of Conte at 0.8%, a quarter of Meloni, at 1.6%, and below 2.6% of Salvini.
