Homemade: Netflix lets Ladj Ly, Kristen Stewart or Sorrentino recount their confinement

Between diary and work of fiction, the platform will launch on Monday a collection of short films made from Los Angeles to Nara by seventeen renowned actors and filmmakers.

Without waiting for the Social Distance series already ordered from showrunner Jenji Kohan ( Orange Is The New Black ), Netflix will draw on Monday June 30 a collection of short films made during confinement by seventeen renowned filmmakers and actors. Called Homemade (homemade in French), the collection called on Ladj Ly, who filmed in Clichy and Montfermeil, in the Paris suburbs, where he had filmed his shock film Les Misérables .

"Confined to their homes during the Covid-19 epidemic, these directors share personal and moving stories that illustrate our individual and collective experience of containment," summarized Netflix in its press release. And to continue: "Filmed using only material available at home, these stories range from the diary of their daily life to short fictions, exploring multiple genres and offering a look at how confinement has affected different countries. around the world and changed the course of our lives . "

Besides Ladj Ly, are among the directors who lent themselves to the game Paolo Sorrentino ( The Young Pope ), which filmed in Rome, Rachel Morrison ( Black Panther ) in Los Angeles, Pablo Larraín ( Jackie ) in Santiago, Rungano Nyoni ( I Am Not a Witch ) in Lisbon, Natalia Beristáin ( No quiero manger sola ) in Mexico, Sebastian Schipper ( Roads ) in Berlin, Naomi Kawase ( The Delights of Tokyo ) in Nara, David Mackenzie ( Outlaw King ) in Glasgow.

"A message of unity and resistance"

Nadine Labaki and Khaled Mouzanar ( Capharnaüm ) filmed in Beirut, Antonio Campos ( The Devil All The Time ) in New York, Johnny Ma ( Live and sing ) in San Sebastián del Oeste (Mexico), Gurinder Chadha ( Play it like Beckham ) in London, Sebastián Lelio ( A Fantastic Woman ) in Santiago, and Ana Lily Amirpour ( The Bad Batch ) in Los Angeles.

To these fifteen filmmakers, we must add two actresses, Maggie Gyllenhaal who planted her camera in Vermont and Kristen Stewart who chose Los Angeles. It would be the first time that the star of the series The Honorable Woman and The Deuce has passed behind the camera. Kristen Stewart already has three short films to her credit.

" This project is a way of sending a strong message of unity and resistance to the entire international creative community. Even in such a complicated period, we can try to explore exciting tracks ”, underlines the producer Lorenzo Mieli ( The Prodigious Friend, Criminal Squadra ) who had the idea of Homemade with Juan de Dios Larraín and his brother, director Pablo Larraín.
