The Minister of Health of the Nation, Ginés González García, revealed on Tuesday that only 3.4% of the intensive care beds in the country are occupied by patients with coronavirus.

In a dialogue with Radio Miter , the official explained that nearly 50% of the 11,500 intensive care beds in all of Argentina are empty. The other half is occupied by patients with various pathologies, among whom there are only 393 coronavirus patients .

" We do not currently have a critical issue with beds , but the evolutionary rhythm of the disease could cause us to have a problem in a not too long time," said Ginés, while he considered it "necessary" to toughen the quarantine in the AMBA to avoid an overflow of the health system in the course of the next four weeks.

In detailing the statistics, the minister revealed that in AMBA, the area with the largest circulation of Covid-19, the level of occupancy of Intensive Care Units is 65%, although in some critical areas of the Conurbano it reaches 80% .

According to official data, the City of Buenos Aires has 400 intensive care beds in public hospitals and 1,500 in private health centers. The total occupation of the entire Capital is around 50%, reported this Tuesday the Buenos Aires health minister, Fernán Quirós.

On the other hand, González García spoke in favor of making a "stop" in Capital and Greater Buenos Aires to stop the movement of people amid the increase in cases, he decided that it would be announced in the next few hours by President Alberto Fernández, the chief Government Horacio Rodríguez Larreta and Governor Axel Kicillof.

This is how he explained it: “ I think we have to restrict circulation. We must persuade ourselves to return to that commitment that we had at the beginning. What we have to do is a stop. Braking could be very useful to stop a little bit. There is a lot of circulation. There are many people who come and go in the City of Buenos Aires and it is a critical moment ”.
