An earthquake of magnitude 7.5 on the Richter scale rocked southern Mexico on Tuesday morning, according to the National Seismological Service. A tsunami alert was triggered in Central America after this earthquake.

"We currently have no information about possible damage," said David Leon, Mexico's civil protection official, who met with President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, according to the daily Milenio.
370 dead in 2017
The last major earthquake in Mexico dates back to September 2017. It had shaken Mexico City and the states near Morelo and Puebla where the epicenter was located, killing 370 people.
On September 19, 1985, an magnitude 8.1 earthquake struck the Mexican capital, killing more than 10,000 people and destroying hundreds of buildings. The earthquake, whose epicenter was on the Pacific coast, is considered one of the most destructive in the history of the country.
