Thelma Fardin, who in recent years has become relevant in Argentina for her feminist struggle and for denouncing the actor Juan Darthés for rape, was hired by the municipality of Ushuaia to carry out talks against sexual abuse suffered by women , deepened in the context of the pandemic. But her hiring generated a stir on social networks due to false information about the amount she would charge and from the city they had to clarify it.

According to the contract that she signed for six months, the actress must be the "link with the Ministry of Women, Genders and Diversities of the Nation, provide advice and awareness talks, trainings, courses and workshops, among other things."

"The objective of said contract is to be able to make visible, with a clear voice and identified with the women of our city, the fight against sexual harassment of which many people are victims," said the secretary of Women of the Municipality of Ushuaia, Noelia Trentino Martire , in dialogue with Ushuaia News .

And he added: "We have to be very firm in the fight against these abuses, because we cannot be complicit, or remain silent in the face of sexual abuse . This is one of the pillars of the work of this Secretariat for Women."

The controversy did not take long to appear and the hiring made a lot of noise on social networks, especially when the amount that Fardin would charge for that work began to circulate erroneously. Since then, the topic has become a trend on Twitter and the ball has not stopped growing. Given this, the municipality came out to clarify the situation.

"One feels that in these malicious publications, there is a political operation that seeks to discredit the work carried out by the Secretariat for Women, and to stigmatize a woman who suffered from sexual abuse . They present the information in a deceptive way to make people angry, "said Trentino Martire.

And he clarified that, although in the networks it was said that the artist was going to charge 55,000 pesos per month, in reality that is the total amount for the six months . "We have to be very clear, and say that it is absolutely false that he is being paid that amount per month. The contract is limited to six months and for an amount of $ 55,000," said the official.

Leaving aside the controversy, the Secretary for Women explained that "the idea is to make the most of this time with training, talks, debate and open the discussion on the importance of caring for and protecting all people who have suffered abuse, attacks, or domestic and / or sexual violence. "

"Thelma knows our city a lot, because she has already been working together with the group of Argentine Actresses on several occasions. We are working on a federal network that makes the problems of sexual abuse in the provinces visible and we want Tierra del Fuego to be present," he added. .

And finally she defended Fardin for the criticism she receives: " It is very painful that a woman who suffered from sexual abuse is doubly stigmatized for her militancy and for her work to raise awareness against abuse. She was very brave in making this complaint with the Argentine Actresses and instead of attacking a young woman, I think the fundamental thing is to accompany them and help that events like these do not happen again.
