Over 4.603 billion years, ten springs represent a tiny part of the life of the Sun, but the images captured during this period by NASA remain impressive. In 61 minutes of video, the American space organization has compiled 425 million photographs of the star taken from space by the SDO (Solar Dynamics Observatory) probe.

Since its launch in June 2010, the NASA probe has observed the Sun and captures a high resolution image of the sun every 0.75 second. The video shows the increase and decrease in activity that occurs as part of the 11-year solar cycle and notable events, such as planets in transit and solar flares. In certain passages, it is possible to see dark images covering those of the star. They correspond to the moments when the Earth and the Moon are positioned between the objective and the star.

The data collected by the SDO probe allowed astronomers to make important discoveries about the functioning of our star and its influence on the solar system. Other NASA missions will continue to monitor our Sun in the years to come, providing new information on Earth's place in space as well as specific information to keep astronauts safe.
